Thanks for letting us know. I’m on a MAC – but I was getting these kind of emails on my Facebook account. I deleted the person whose name was always attached to it — and never saw another one.
I’m sorry I can’t remember his name, I’m sure he’d benefit from these simple directions.

I had all these same problems but I’m on a mac. I think it might be because I was using facebook in Japan (on vacation) and clicked on one of those stupid links. I haven’t found any anti malware programs for mac because theyre supposed to be such a fortress of solitude… but clearly not. Any suggestions?

The website you suggested did not find the facebook virus. I am getting ready to dump this computer and start over. I’ve downloaded 4 different anti-virus programs to no avail.
This sucks! Facebook shuts down every time I log on…through IE and AOL.

Thank you so much. Worked like a charm. However, after my reboot I did not have to reset my connections on my web browser. They were left un-altered.
Thanks again

I had some girl (Patrice Dx) send me a naked picture of her!
This was from Face Book and her name appeared in blue, meaning a friend. I reported her, then went back a few minutes latter and the name was in black….
I will do this, because something isn’t right now… Thank you! Dale

The procedure you go over to get rid of this virus is amazingly accurate and simple to understand. Malwarebytes.org is awesome, found every infected file on both *sigh* of my computers! I think this virus assumes many different shapes and varieties… and has probably manifested it’s self into a more complex virus in the year since you made this video. I didn’t have to go in and change any proxy servers, but by simply running this malware program, it detected all the infected files when my Mcafee couldn’t detect a thing. THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP!! I greatly appreciate it
October 21st, 2009 at 6:23 pm
I used the malware product you spoke of and it cleared my laptop before it got to a point of no return. Great information.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:05 pm
Spent the last couple of days trying to fix this. My facebook was hijacked big time. My McAfee was not properly able to fix and on reboot the virus would reappear again. Downloaded various spy ware. Found this advice and downloaded Malwarebytes. This picked up 15 infected files. The PC is now back to normal.

Hey guys. I left Facebook open on my home computer when I went to work and returned home to find that my computer had a virus. I can no longer access any network connections (no internet access *weep weep) and my antivirus programme cannot be accessed either – it says that it cannot read the ‘library’. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have to sneak on at work to surf the net hehe
November 7th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
Thanks alot for your useful info.
What did you do to reverse engineer the virus? Ollydbg?
November 9th, 2009 at 11:33 am
Thanks so much for this info. I assume this is what happened to my home computer because when I try to access IE it doesn’t always load & I hear advertisements in the background even when I don’t have the internet up. I will try the steps you gave & pray that it work.
Thanks again for being kind enough to share this as other sites are only telling you how to avoid the virus & not how to reverse it.
November 9th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! your video is great and now all my facebook friends can stop sending me hateful messages!!

Thank you thank you thank you.
November 16th, 2009 at 8:24 am
It’s not working. I can’t get to the Malware site, peoplefindit comes up instead.
November 17th, 2009 at 6:54 am
I have the same problem as Judith, I have the ability to search, but unable to link to the search results.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:12 am
The virus is redirecting your browser to fake search engines that pay the virus authors for clicks and blocking legitimate sites.
Use another computer and download the apps needed.
Then copy them to a CD and transfer them to your infected PC so you can root out the infection.
Once you run the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware tool (download it from http://www.malwarebytes.org ), then you’ll be able to use your PC again.
November 17th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
I, like someone else above went to the malwarebytes.org site and though it says on their site that the software is free there is no download without paying for a 1, 2 or 3 year option. Has anyone found the free software?
November 18th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
Thank you so very much for saving me – no other cleaner would work! Love the video explanation. You’re the best!
November 19th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
i have a problem… the virus is stopping me from downloading any anti-malware on my computer. it won’t even pull up the web page for the malwarebytes.org or anything else i’ve tried. I also tried downloading the malwarebytes on to my other computer and then saving it to my flash drive and plugging th flash drive into the infected computer but i don’t know how to run the program after i transfer it to the infected computer. help!

I can’t do anything on my puter. Got the virus yesterday. VIRUS PROTECTOR (shield) is the only thing that comes up on my monitor. The virus makers want me to buy their AV program, which I am sure is a scam. Ctrl/Alt/Del does nothing and the virus eventually closes down my task manager. Can’t bring the puter up in safe mode; F8 does nothing at all. No background, no taskbar, no browser, no icons, nothing. Any ideas?

ok now that the virus has been eradicated do we have to go to all other apps and change passwords?
March 19th, 2010 at 10:55 am
I would change the password used for Facebook plus those for any online financial sites you use.

I have Norton Anitvirus and they keep on blocking the attempts to attack. Will it keep on Blocking it? When will it end?
March 19th, 2010 at 4:28 pm
NA will keep blocking it as long as your subscription stays current. For extra protection, adding a personal firewall to your PC is always a safe bet. Checkpoint software has a free version of Zone Alarm that works well.
Another good safety measure is running MalwareBytes on a weekly basis. It’s free and roots out anything and everything nasty that might be lurking on your system. A lot of times, bad stuff hangs around in Internet Explorer’s temporary files until it gets purged.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
You are a life saver!! I followed what you said and everything seems to be back to normal
Apart from i have a few angry friends :/
But again thank you!
April 12th, 2010 at 11:08 pm
I run Microsoft’s free, Security essentials, anti-virus, and it blocked this every time. In fact, it’s notified me of more malicious sites then McAfee ever did! I have it on my sister’s computer also, because she used to get all kinds of worms & virus while using McAfee! It’s blocked various site’s such as these. She no longer get’s into a mess, that I have to clear up. But I do agree, that you should download Malwarebytes, even before you get a virus. That way you have it, because some virus’ will not allow you to download it.

Virus Protector is also making the rounds on Facebook.
Killing Virus Protector: The solution for me was at…
http://www.myantispyware.com/2010/02/20/how-to-remove-virus-protector-uninstall-instructions/
Start at the section that says “Use the following instructions to remove Virus Protector (Uninstall instructions)”.
I hope it helps others.
