35 Cent Gas – Crowds swarmed a gas station offering gas for 35 cents when an employee mistakenly entered a 35 cent price instead of $3.35 a gallon and none of the employees noticed all day long despite the swarms of traffic outside.

Crowds swarm gas station with 35 cent gas

The 35 cent gas at the Wilmington, NC Kangaroo Express station had traffic backed up for miles in both directions, yet the price remained unchanged from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. despite the huge crowds around the pumps.

The pricing signs at the BP station displayed the correct price, but news of the cheap premium gas price at the pumps spread like wildfire through the coastal North Carolina city where Michael Jordan grew up.

After finding gas was only 35 cents a gallon, people were telling friends and neighbors about the great deal. A woman told a local news station that after filling her car up, she returned to fill up her SUV’s 28-gallon tank for less than $10.

“I wasn’t sure if it was true, but I decided to come out here and check it out,” the woman said. “I didn’t have anything to lose and everything to gain.”

Station employees didn’t discover the pricing error until after calling their district manager to ask about changing the price of gas as a way of stemming traffic. They mistakenly believed the problem was that their premium gas blend was priced slightly lower than the regular blend.

Wilmington police arrived about 6:30 p.m. to help deal with traffic and control the crowd, after some drivers reportedly became angry after waiting in line for an hour only to discover the 35 cent gas was gone.

And that’s the latest news on the gas station that drew huge crowds all day long before employees noticed they were offering 35 cent gas.
