Female Rambo Captured – A FARC guerilla known as the female Rambo has been captured in Columbia, half-starved and wounded, with scars criss-crossing her body from years of jungle fighting.

The female Rambo captured was the FARC guerrillas’ senior female commander known as “Karina” who Columbian secret police identified as Nelly Avila Moreno.
“To become a FARC leader you have to been utterly ruthless and vicious, even more so if you are a woman,” said an army intelligence source. “Karina was both.”
A glance at Karina shows why she was known as a “female Rambo” in the FARC. Moreno is now blind in one eye and scars from combat cover her face. She has lost a breast from an explosion and has bullet wounds along one arm.

The FARC’s female Rambo came to public attention in June 2002 after the town of Arboleda-Pensilvania in the province of Caldas was attacked by rebel forces. Thirteen policemen were killed along with four civilians, including one woman who was burned alive for being married to a policeman.
It was then that President Alvaro Uribe called upon his security forces to capture or kill Karina and put an $800,000 bounty on the rebel leader’s head.
She gave far worse than she got in the fierce fighting with government forces. Nelly Avila Moreno was wanted for a battery of charges, among them murder, extortion and kidnapping.
Before being captured, the so-called “female Rambo” had been linked to a series of massacres in the banana-growing region of Uraba up by the Caribbean Coast, near where she was born.
Yet by negotiating her surrender under the government amnesty legislation known as the Peace and Justice Law, Morena can be sentenced to only a maximum of eight years in prison.
Her surrender came about after her immediate boss, Ivan Rios, a member of the FARC’s ruling seven-man body the Secretariat, was murdered in March, 2008 by one of his bodyguards.
The bodyguard, alias ‘Rojas’, cut off Rios’ hand as proof of his act and turned himself into the authorities where he promptly received a reward of more than $1,000,000.
Karina, 45, commandeered the FARC’s 47th Front which, at the height of its power, had 350 members operating in and around the northern province of Antioquia, where the rebel leader now sits in a police cell in the provincial capital of Medellin, awaiting her fate.
And that’s the latest news on the female Rambo captured.
