American Idol contestant Luke Menard has cancer

The Luke Menard cancer diagnosis of Stage II non-Hodgkins lymphoma is not as bad as it sounds.

The American Cancer Society estimates the five-year survival rate for Stage 2 non-Hodgkins lymphoma at 90-95%, so that’s the good news for Luke and his family.

“Luke had a lingering cough and was having trouble breathing deeply, so he went to the doctor to have it checked out,” Jane Victor, a member of Luke Menard’s a cappella group Chapter 6 told CBS News. “The suspicion was walking pneumonia. But after a chest x-ray doctors saw a mass and did more testing, which is what led to the stage II Hodgkin diagnosis.”

“They’ve been told that it’s treatable and manageable. Luke is currently in Los Angeles and plans to return home to Indiana soon,” Victor told reporters.
