State police refuse to say its Stacy Peterson body found by a cleanup crew working on the riverbank near Channahon, Illinois, but they have notified Stacy’s relatives of the find.
“They’re unidentified human remains,” said State Police Master Sgt. Tom Burek, after the decomposed small female body was found clad only in underwear.
Channahon resident Michelle Williams told reporters that she notified local police about a blue barrel she saw on the riverbank three days before the remains washed up.
An autopsy will be done today to determine the cause of death, but further forensic tests likely will be necessary to determine the identity of the body.
“We’re just being patient right now. We’re waiting,” said Pam Bosco, a spokeswoman for relatives of Stacy Peterson, 23, of Bolingbrook, who vanished Oct. 28, 2007.
Drew Peterson, in jail for the murder of his third wife, claimed fourth wife Stacy Peterson abandoned her children and ran away from home taking only a bikini and $10,000 in cash.
Peterson’s stepbrother Tom Morphey told police that the blue plastic barrel he helped Peterson move the day Stacy disappeared felt warm and weighed about 120 pounds.
A month before she died, Stacy Peterson confided to her pastor, Neil Schori, that her husband had told her he killed Kathleen Savio, according to an interview Schori gave Greta Van Susteren of Fox News in December 2007.

The fact that the hands and head were removed from the remains would indicate to me some advanced knowledege of forensics. This unfortunately, would tend to incriminate Drew. His new girlfriend needs to seek mental help yesterday.

I agree that indicating this IS Stacy is irresponsible. I feel in my gut that it IS her and if what Ms. Williams said is true and she reported a blue barrel severaldays prior to the discovery, then it is a really strong possibility that this is Stacy. Leave it to Drew then (because I believe he is the perp given his statements about her leaving him and the kids for another man with only a bikini and $10,000 cash) to think of destroying the parts of body that would indicate easier id, but he will not get away with this. Something tells me that he is about to have his Karma bite him in the butt big time. He looks like the Cowardly Lion and acts like he thinks he’s God. Interesting combination. This is only about 20 miles from Bolinbrook and there are many desolate places along that river to dump a victim without being seen. I tend to think it is Stacey because of the blue barrel found so close by, but if it is the girl, Lisa, well, at least the family members will get some kind of closure and can begin the horrid process of greiving. I don’t believe those who loved either one can begin until remains are found because hope is always held out. drew peterson is less than rancid scum.
Drew’s attorney said he had no reaction, but isn’t that how he has acted all along, showed no reactions or emotions. I know he has said as well as his attorney, that he has taken a lie detector tests and passed the questions about Stacy, but showed on other questions of lying, Well that tells me that as a former cop, he knows how to get around the tough questions but never learned how to cover up the easy questions. I feel that if they do find him guilty, then I think his punishment should be the same as what he gave them and that is death.

The remains found last week on the bank of an Illinois river and near a blue barrel are not those of Stacy Peterson, Illinois state police said Wednesday.
Partial skeletal remains were found on the south bank of the Des Plaines River near Channahon, Illinois.
Many people speculated that the remains, found near the Des Plaines River less than 30 miles from the homes of Peterson and another missing woman, Lisa Stebic, meant one of their disappearances would be solved.
But testing done on the remains showed they belonged to a male, police said.
Officials had to conduct further testing on the “partial skeletal remains,” consisting of a rib cage, spinal column and partial left and right femur, after a preliminary autopsy did not reveal any identifying information.
A marine cleanup crew discovered the remains in Channahon, Illinois, last week along with shreds of blue jeans and a small amount of money.
Stacy Peterson, 23 when she was last seen in October 2007, was former police officer Drew Peterson’s fourth wife. They lived in Bolingbrook, Illinois, 20 miles from where the remains were discovered.
Her husband has been named a suspect in her disappearance, but he has maintained his innocence, saying she left him for another man. The ex-officer’s stepbrother told police he helped Drew Peterson move a heavy blue barrel shortly after his wife’s disappearance.
So when news came that a few days before the remains were discovered a woman named Michelle Williams found a blue barrel in the same area, many people expected Stacy Peterson had been found.
Though her case still remains a mystery, her family remains hopeful there will be a solution. Drew Peterson was indicted May 7 on charges he killed his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Savio died while the two were in the midst of a nasty divorce.
The death was originally deemed an accident, but authorities took a second look at the case after Stacy Peterson’s disappearance. Drew Peterson has pleaded not guilty.
Others had suspected the remains could be those of Lisa Stebic. Channahon is 15 miles from Plainfield, Illinois, where Stebic was last seen in April 2007.
On the day she disappeared, she petitioned a court to have her husband, Craig, evicted from their Plainfield home. Craig Stebic told police he was working in the backyard when his 37-year-old wife left home about 6 p.m., taking her cell phone and purse.
Authorities have said they believe that Lisa Stebic was the victim of foul play and have named Craig Stebic a suspect.

As much as we all may believe Drew killed Stacy we need to stop and remember were all entitled to a fair trial. In America we are supposedly innocent until proven guilty. Unfortunately people are constantly held in jail while awaiting trial. So if you ask me the system time after time is proving just the opposite we are Guilty until proven innocent. In this aspect we are the same as those Countries in which we fight with for demonstrating like injustices. I want the American dream for my children and want to see are initial ideals of a truly fair judicial system being upheld.

My heart goes out to stacy,s family or the family of whoever the remains belong to. But I have to ask why this monster thought he was going to get away with killing off the women in his life that he could,nt control?
