Desmond Hatchett – A Tennessee man named Desmond Hatchett has 21 kids at age 29 and a child support problem so severe that Hatchett is on an automatic jail order.
Seems Desmond Hatchett wasn’t planning on being 29 years old with 21 kids, telling a judge who was dividing Hatchett’s entire paycheck of $400 across back due child support claims from 11 women, “I didn’t intend to have this many. It just happened.”
Hatchett spent part of Friday afternoon jailed while a child support referee decided how to split up the $400 he brought to court.
The mothers of Hatchett’s children are supposed to get anywhere from $25 to $309 a month, but when his paycheck is garnished amongst them all, some women only get a $1.98 a month.
Twice, Hatchett has had four children born in the same year and the 11 women claiming child support account for only 15 of Hatchett’s 21 children.
By law, the State can only take 50% of Hatchett’s paycheck, but the competing claims filed by the eleven mothers mean Desmond will be back in court on a regular basis for the next twenty years.
“The children can’t be supported all by Desmond, so the state of Tennessee has had to step in,” Hatchett’s attorney Keith Pope said.

It is guys like this that have made the child support system so messed up. I have one child and I pay $500 a month. Here is a guy that pays less then $2 a month to raise a child. How is this fair to anyone? I feel that this man wait I can’t call him a man because a man takes care of his responiblities. I worked at a battered womens center and we had women of all races with multiple children by different fathers. Desmond is an extreme example, but sadly not an exception.
I find it funny how so often mainstream America like to argue that blacks and latinos attempt to turn everything into a discussion of race, but when it is something negative as Desmond certainly is acceptable and mandatory to discuss race and in fact make the main topic of discussion.

The question always arises to why do these people allow themselves to get into such situations? Both parents are responsible for these innocent children being born. I know that we have court systems in place to jail deadbeat parents however, it doesn’t solve the problem. Taxpayers will have to pay for this in 2 fashions, the person jailed and the children’s support. 3 meals and a cot will not help the children get fed and clothed. The welfare system can be given on conditions. I believe we need to amend our laws concerning deadbeat parents by enforcing work standards and give employment opportunities as well as educational requirements to enable them to support their children. Yes, we will have to take on some of the costs of this in the front end but, in the long run, it will be beneficial to everyone if this way is enforced. Both parents should have to pay back the monies that were paid to conduct help them get back on track. There should also be a mandatory state loan (to be paid back in low monthly payments) that each parent will have to get in order for this program to take affect. There should also be educational classes on the purpose of sex in relationships and preventive measures because obviously there is ignorance on both ends. Let’s face it . . . a lot of people have not been taught properly how relationships are to function.

Wow, it is amazing to me how much response he is getting. It is not just about him, he is not the only one that has a responsibility. Women need to not depend on men to cover it up, they need to take control themselves as well. While he, nor the state can support the kids by themselves, what about the mothers, the state has programs available for them to go out and get jobs, finish school, child care assistance and much more. If they are choosing to stay home and sit on their butts and do nothing else but collect a check, then there is a much bigger problem.
We are so harsh on those that a willing to at least help, but what about those who do nothing at all, and are not made to pay child support?

White taxes will be spent to help raise these kids, feed them, send them to school, pay for their hospital bills, then eventually white taxes will be spend to appoint a defense lawyer, conduct a trial, incarcerate, pay a parole officer, another trial, re-incarcerate and in some cases tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars will be spent on repeated appeals of the death penalty – all the while these 21 kids will have between 3 and 20 kids of their own who will repeat the cycle.

You all are complaining of him not using a condomn and/or birth control. It doesn’t make a difference. You can still get pregnant while using BOTH of those.
And, people say it’s the mothers fault, the mother’s may not even of known about his kids. He may not watch them at all.
I think he is at fault for not sticking to one woman, and one woman only.

Hell with all the reality shows and TV shows “glorifying” sex and haveing babies what do you expect! There is NO MORALITY in this country any more folks! Seems to me back in the “old days” when women had some respect for themselves unwanted pregnancies were’nt a problem CAUSE THEY KEPT THEIR LEGS SHUT! It starts with us – THE WOMEN – if we don’t spread our legs we don’t get pregnant! For God’s sake what the hell has happened to “first comes love then comes marriage then comes the baby carriage”???????????????????????? You know there is a blue print to be followed – and it’s because of it NOT being followed tht there are so many “cling ons” demanding “state assistance” for their LACK OF RESPONSIBILTY! Did the state assist you in getting pregnant? NO! People like this guy make ME SICK cause responsible people like me end up having to pay for their stupidity! I have read all the comments on this page from the dumbest to the more intelligent. The one thing I do have to say is this, we as Americans (regardless of your race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or sexual preference) have all fallen short of the Glory of God. Regardless of this man and his fathering 21 children is not really any of the tax payers business. We pay for bombs and soldiers that kill that many in a day. But are we complaining? We pay for cloaning of animals and research for diseases that may or may not affect, effect or infect our lives in one way or another. But, are we complaining? We are building roads that lead to no where, bridges that are substandard, and recycled housing. But are we complaining? We keep paying for cruises, vacations, insurance, new cars, training, and other non-essentials for our government representatives. But are we complaining? Pick and chose your battles more carefully when it comes to the stones that we as Americans throw at others because of their inabilities, misfortunes, and indiscretions. We as Americans were glued to the television set to find out if President Clinton had oral relations with Monica Lewinsky. Who do you think paid for that? We did. We paid more the nonsense and the “none of our business” information than we do for assisting someone with their children. If you place a blame on anyone, place a blame on yourselves for entertaining this story and getting your jollies off of someone else and their miseries.
