Sorana Cirstea – !9-year old Sorana Cirstea, aka Sorana Cristea, beat fifth-seeded Jelena Jankovic at the French open with Cirstea of Romania 3-6, 6-0, 9-7 in a thrilling match.
Ranked 41st in the world, Sorana Cirstea fought back in the third set when Jankovic was only two points from victory and successfully advanced to the quarterfinals.
Jankovic complained about a painful left foot and was visited by a trainer in the second set, but hung tough until Cirstea converted her third match point in a 2-hour, 44-minute marathon.
Cirstea now faces No. 30 Samantha Stosur of Australia, a 6-1, 6-2 winner against Virginie Razzano of France in another women’s fourth-round match.
