Three Students Killed Skipping Last Day Of School – Three Jacksonville, Florida students skipping the last day of school were killed and three more are in critical condition after a Ford Explorer blew a tire and rolled over, ejecting eight of nine students onto I-295 in rush hour traffic.

Three carloads of students skipping the last day of school at Ed White High School in Jacksonville were caravaning to the beach at 8:30 a.m. when the fatal accident occurred.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the victims were all teenagers headed for a day at the beach rather than attending the last day of school.
The FHP said all nine victims were in a Ford Explorer that overturned while northbound near New Kings Road just after 8:30 a.m.
“We believe the left rear tire may have separated — we’re still investigating that,” FHP Lt. Bill Leeper said. “The driver lost control, traveled over onto the shoulder of the roadway, struck a light pole.”
According to Leeper, everyone except the driver was ejected from the SUV — one found 200 feet from the vehicle. The FHP believes the driver was the only person wearing a seat belt.
Five people were airlifted to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where two died and the other three were in critical condition. Three other victims were transported to Baptist Medical Center.
Duval County school officials confirm that two ninth-grade students and one 11th grader died in the wreck. Their names were not being released until all the families were notified.
One boy who was in a car behind the Explorer said he had to pull his friend from under the
Explorer.
Miren Schinco, a trauma center chief at Shands, said several of the teens sustained head injuries. She said once doctors can take a moment to reflect on things like this, it’s troubling.
“I had to talk to a family — that was extremely difficult,” Schinco said. I have children of this age and they went to the beach with their friends.”
