Snake Kills Girl – An escaped Burmese python killed a two-year old girl named Shaiunna Hare in Florida, strangling the girl as she slept and then biting her head.

The python snake kills girl incident happened in a rural area outside Orlando, Florida at the home of 32-year old Charles Darnell – who is not the girl’s father – and 23-year old Jaren A. Hare, Shaiunna’s mother.

Lt. Bobby Caruthers of Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said the python was a family pet that apparently broke free from inside a glass aquarium in the home’s living room. The snake then made its way into the girl’s bedroom and apparently strangled her in the middle of the night.

Darnell, 32, found the snake – about 8.5 feet long – on top of the 2-year-old this morning after he noticed the snake was missing from the aquarium. He then started stabbing the reptile. Family members called 911 at 9:43 a.m. The child was dead when emergency crews arrived at 10 a.m. She had a bite mark on her head, authorities said.

2-year-old Shaiunna Hare is one of five children killed by a pet python in the U.S. since 1980.
The snake’s owner, Charles Darnell, is now being questioned by Sumter Sheriff’s investigators and may face child endangerment charges. State wildlife officials said Darnell likely faces a second-class misdemeanor charge because he did not have a permit for the python. The misdemeanor charge could be punishable up to a $500 fine and 60 days in jail.
Charles Darnell was also arrested in late May and charged with several drug charges, including possession of cocaine and possession of amphetamine with the intention to sell.

situation like this should ring
a message in the ears of many people around the world. we need to understand that no matter how cute or innocient a animal may look, they are still animals. animals have a habit of being wild, regardless of the training we may give them, they will always be animals, sometimes they are good and sometimes they are dangerous.
” snakes, lions, bears and many other animals are harmful
and i don’t think they should be sold as a pet at all. i’am sorry about the lost ‘ R.I.P little one.

I have a baby and a python which is in the cage most of the time. we have him in a huge cage so that he can move around freely and almost be in his natural habitat. He has a lot of different lights like to sunbathe and keep warm. He has clean flowin water so he can drink and swim if he wants to. The biggest thing is we make sure we feed him and he is never aloud around our baby. so maybe the guy should of kept him fed. snakes are not that hard to take care of and would only attack when hungry. so i think he should of got animal cruelity too. My prayers and thoughts go out to the little one and to her mother. Im sorry… R.I.P
