DoubleMySpeed.com – Here is what you need to know about the “speed up your PC” claims at the heavily advertised DoubleMySpeed.com website.

The www.DoubleMySpeed.com website claims that cleaning up your registry files can double the speed of your PC, but the site is basically misrepresenting what it’s offering.
The software download turns out to be “CyberDefender” which has a rather poor reputation online and will show you hundreds of supposed “registry errors” that need to be fixed.
The free trial offered by DoubleMySpeed.com is labeled “CyberDefender Registry Cleaner Trial” and appears not to include any anti-virus or anti-spyware capabilities.
To fix any supposed errors, you need to pay to proceed, but there are free programs out there that provide much better ways to truly speed up your PC.
There is no need to pay anything to speed up your PC, let alone buy a product that has so many angry customer reviews posted online.
To really speed up your PC, use these free programs instead:
- Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
- Spybot Search & Destroy
- AVG Antivirus
And that’s the latest news on DoubleMySpeed.com.

OK, I will play Devil’s advocate – I actually got DoubleMySpeed. First, is clearly says everywhere that it is powered by Cyberdefender, a NASDAQ company. i think they get more oversite then a free software company operating out of a backroom somewhere. My experience with DoubleMySpeed was reasonable for the price I paid. It was the first time I ran any kind of software like this after more than 3 years of using my system. it found more then 1000 issues and seemed to fix all of them. Maybe its is buyer defence but I know my system is faster then before using it.
Now not everone will have the same result, and I have tried several free programs only to have to uninstall them when they did very little or I couldnot get any support. So is DoubleMySpeed for everyone – no, but for some and especially those who are not computer geniuses it seems to do something.

I guess if u have not (and plenty of people also) ran ANY kind of repair for the last 3 years..just cleaning out your recycle bin will provide some speed. Tweaknow.com has an very free , good program. The 3 program examples in the article are some of the best. Process explorer is very good in listing whats running and how much computer cycles things take up…if a backround (or anything) program is taking up 100%..or even as low as 5%..then u have an issue. Do research on claims..no program is going to actually double your speed and they dont define the speed of what..the cpu (they cant)..the hard drive (cant…but removing years of junk will make it more responsive). Registry scans will always find a few errors. You may think your computer is faster..it will probally be more responsive…they are counting on u thinking its been doubled. Like the article implied..if it dosent include virus/spyware (90% of the computers I fix are slow because of virus/spyware) your missing alot. A fancy commerical is almost always not the best..I prefer some honest guy in a backroom.

If you want to keep your computer running fast. Run these programs/ use these tips.
- Diskcleanup (included in Windows Xp, Vista, 7)
- Auslogics Disk Defragmenter (Download.com Free)
- A lightweight Anti Virus Program (Rule of thumb, the more it can do, the more memory it will need and slow your computer down. AVG has gotten a lot better. Its lightweight. Kapersky, Norton, McAfee are memory hogs.
- Minimal Applications installed on your computer. Your registry fills up fast and gets fragmented just like your harddive.
- Saving all your files (music, movies, documents etc) & folders to a external harddrive so your defrags don’t take 3 hours long on your internal harddrive for your operating system. Also, if your system crashes from bloatware, spyware, etc, you can reinstall your system with a fresh copy of windows using your backup cd and not have data affected.
- Beware of Freeware, If you install it, your looking for trouble.

This is in response to J:
I do agree with most of the things you said in your post, but you forgot to mention a good Antivirus that is comparable in performance (in my opinion at least for my systems better) which is Avast, and they do offer a free home edition, which is very effective (caught a lot that McAfee missed). Not all freeware leads to trouble, in fact I have had very good luck with freeware programs such as Malwarebytes Antimalware, ashampoo CD/DVD burning suite, revo uninstaller, and many more. I typically get my freeware from Cnet’s download.com and I read reviews of software I am putting on my system before I do anything. Currently my computer is running Windows 7 Beta (bought the real deal, but haven’t been inclined to change it out yet, laziness) and it is a very smooth running system, other than an issue with media player which I inadvertantly caused by deleting a rather important file needed to run it, that doesn’t seem to want to come back, because I am running the beta. My solution is I just don’t use Windows Media Player… I digress. You just have to be careful with what you install. I would not use any program that comes from a site like finallyfast.com or doublemyspeed.com for the reasons that several others have stated. But malwarebytes has saved my unit on more than one occasion.

Well, my experience after purchase has been really positive. It cleaned up all the things it found, and did it with a clean and informative window. My computer rebooted faster and ran faster afterwards and for me that was worth it and so say what ever you want I am a satisfied customer. I did some research and found a lot of people had positive experiences with cyberdefender as well as some negative one – just like AVG and other virus programs. If I go by you get what you pay for, I paid for a program that cleaned up my computer without a hassle or need to understand why it works, and I got that so I am very happy with the DoubleMySpeed cyberdefender registry cleaner.

I just ordered DoubleMySpeed and my computer is much faster than before. Mnay thanks.
Now, when I first installed it I had some confusions so I called the 24/7 hotline number and the gentleman was very nice to me and walked step by step with me. I was glad that he was pleasant and patient with me since I had so many questions.
I recommend this product if you want to really clean it out and have anti-virus.

First goto Malwarebytes.org and download their Anti-Malware software. There’s a bad bug going around and this stuff is the only thing that’ll fixit
Second goto TweakNow.com and download TweakNow RegCleaner
Third goto your Internet Options in the Control Panel and empty all the old temp files.
Yeah I Know this is basic stuff but most people have no idea
Fouth Run both Malwarebytes and TweakNow not just once, EVERY WEEK
Fifth and most important Learn How to Shut Down Unwanted Processes. It’s too complicated to go into detail here but it’s the best way to speed up the Ol’ PC

I protect my Windows 7 PC using free antivirus and antimalware products and am happy to say that my computer is just as fast, today, as it was when I bought it. I use Avast for my antivirus, and Spybot to do the malware watch. When I see ads for DoubleMySpeed.com or similar, I just cringe, knowing that literally thousands of people are going to PAY somebody to screw up their computer. What I don’t understand is, there are anti-fraud laws available to protect consumers. Why are these criminals allowed to continue to advertise their junkware, tricking the not-so-tech-savvy into throwing their money away?
Stay safe, everybody. Surf informed!

Shame on me for getting conned into the Double My Speed trap… I ran the free trial of CyberSecurity. It reportedly found over 800 registry errors. I paid the $40 for just CyberSecurity. So glad I didn’t get the Antivirus protection and the $15 “hard copy” CD, else I’d be out even more money.
I registered my installation of CyberSecurity and let it clean up the registry on my Windows XP Pro SP3 PC.
Oh S**T! CyberSecurity was overly zealous in removing registry errors, to the point of removing Event Viewer, Shared Folders, Local Users and Groups, Performance Logs and Alerts, and Device Manager, from Computer Management. I ran MMC to see if I could get to the Computer Management Snap-in. What? All but 2 of the dozens of snap-ins are now gone?
What ELSE has CyberSecurity done to my PC?
I’ve backed up my data files and ran the restore CD to get Windows back to normal.
What a piece of crap software CyberSecurity IS !!!
I WILL fight to get my $40 charge taken off of my credit card and cancel future annual updates of this worthless bunch of monkey-created code !!!

@46… I mistakenly referred to CyberDefender as “CyberSecurity” in my rant about the horrible program. I stand by my standments. Only positive thing I can say is that when I called to cancel my subscription to CyberDefender, the agent was very polite, closed my account to cancel the yearly-renewal, and sent me $50 in coupons to various stores. Did I come out ahead in my original payment of $40? No, not at all, since I had to reload my PC back to factory-condition. Without these coupons, I’d not likely step foot in those stores.
