Christmas Parade Bans Mrs. Claus – A political dispute over a school busing diversity policy got Mrs. Claus banned from the Raleigh Christmas parade.

Raleigh, NC Christmas Parade organizers gave Mrs. Claus the boot, citing worry that children wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus if both were wearing red and white suits.

John Odom – a “diversity” supporter newly elected to the Raleigh City Council who is also the executive director of the Greater Raleigh Merchants Association which runs the parade – said it’s confusing for children to see two people in Santa Claus suits and that it’s a policy that only Santa may wear the official outfit.

The would-be Mrs. Claus – new Wake County school board member Debra Goldman who supported the end of school busing for “diversity” – can’t understand her expulsion since she wore the same outfit in last year’s parade

“Nobody is confused by a person wearing a gray wig and a long red dress,” she said. “I’m disappointed.”

Odom, who was elected to the Raleigh City Council in October, said the decision to reject the Mrs. Claus get-up had nothing to do with Goldman’s election to the school board.

As for why Goldman got to appear as her alter ego last year, Odom said parade officials didn’t know ahead of time that she would donning the costume.

Odom told reporters that Raleigh Christmas Parade officials will even discourage people from wearing Santa hats because young children should believe there is only one Santa.

In other news, the Raleigh Christmas Parade will soon be renamed the December Holiday Diversity Parade.
