Gryphon Attack Glider - Pics and video of the Gryphon attack wing, or attack glider as some call it, that alows a paratrooper to attack a combat zone at 135 miles per hour.
The Gryphon attack glider is a carbon-fiber stealth glider with an optional jet engine pack that delivers a special forces paratrooper straight to his target from up to 125 miles away.
Steered by handheld controls and equipped with a storage bin that can carry a hundred pounds of gear, the 6-foot jet-wing provides on-board oxygen for high-altitude jumps and a helmet that plugs into the attack glider offers a heads up display that includes night vision.
The Gryphon glider unit weighs only 30 pounds, so it’s easy for paratroopers to strap in and jump from 30,000 feet. Because it can descend so quickly, the glider wing can deliver a paratrooper from six miles up to his destination in only 15 minutes, cutting extreme cold exposure by 70%.
By quadrupling the paratrooper’s range and adding extreme manueverability, the Gryphon attack glider is a high-speed, stealth delivery mechanism for special forces troops.
Unaffected by headwinds or crosswinds because of its favorable lift-to-drag ratio, the carbon-fiber glider is virtually undetectable by radar and completely silent.
Attaching an optional small turbo jet, like those currently being used for unmanned military drones, allows the glider to maintain altitude with lower jump heights and travel farther than is currently possible with any other method.
The Gryphon attack wing can also be fully weaponized for an aerial assault under power, providing awesome firpower in a stealth delivery system.
To land, the paratrooper detaches the thirty-pound carbon fiber glider frame and it dangles twenty feet below him, hitting the ground first and leaving plenty of room for the paratrooper to make a clean landing right behind it.
No word on whether they’ll be a commercial version for beating rush hour traffic any time soon.
