15-year old Jamar Siler was arrested six blocks from the school by Knoxville, TN police for the murder of Ryan McDonald as Siler walked home still carrying the murder weapon.
Coincidentally, Knoxville police have also been looking for Jamar’s sister, Ciara Siler, since August 2, for allegedly shooting and killing a woman outside a Knoxville housing project.
Siler had been arrested twice in the last year for public drunkeness, but given probation each time.
Eyewitnesses described a typical student tussle that suddenly turned deadly.
“I saw them when they were arguing and pushing and shoving,” a witness said. “I didn’t see the guy shoot him. What I did see was the guy fall. Jamar shot the guy in the chest and casually walked away as if nothing had happened.”
Shooting victim Ryan McDonald’s friends said the sophomore adopted a tough exterior as a result of teasing about his total baldness due to alopecia.
Ryan lived with his grandmother, said his uncle Roger McDonald, “He tried to have a tough exterior, like a shield, to fit in. He was a good kid … who was dealt some bad cards in life.”
According to eyewitnesses, Ryan McDonald was shot in the chest while arguing with Siler in the cafeteria before school started.
Chad Griffin, 15, and Josh Matthews, 14, said they were sitting a few feet away from McDonald when they heard a sharp noise.
“He got shot and started walking and he was holding his chest. There was blood everywhere. And then he fell and his arm hit me,” he said.
Knoxville, TN Chief Deputy Roehl said, “This wasn’t a shooting that was a random act. It was an individual directing his aggression toward another individual, not the school or the students inside the school.”
Jamar Siler was charged in juvenile court in McDonald’s murder.
Siler’s adoptive mother and his custodian, a woman identified by the judge as his sister, were both in court, along with his biological mother and grandmother, plus several other family members.
Some of those family members say Siler’s biological mother lost custody of her six children years ago.

John, Diversity is a wondersul thing. The ignorance in you makes it seem as if it is only blacks who kill. The man holding a pregnant woman in Maryland for the 3rd day in a row is white. The man in Florida who shot a U.S. Customs agent in the head in front of his daughter because of road rage was white. The man who kept his wife and children hostage in a trash and bug infested home and physicaly abused them was white. The man in Ohio who shook his baby todeath after an argument with his wife was white. I could go on and on. My point is. This shooter was wrong. I don’t care if the deceased called the shooter a derogatory name. He did not deserve to be killed. The shooter deserves to be punished. Your children are no better than mine. And God knows, your people have just as much dirt, evil, and ignorance in your closets as any other race does. Your post shows that.

I believe that because of ignorant people such as John, our world is the way it is. We live in a society where people do not look to the side if it is not to criticize or otherwise defame other individuals. I really do have a lot of appreciation for tasha’s post. Crime is not something that can be attributed to a specific race. Crime exists everywhere on an international basis. In this case, whether or not a derogatory term was used is besides the point. The murderer is wrong and justice will be served, but his race has nothing to do with the situation. The crime was committed. Ryan McDonald is dead. Pointing fingers at one another, claiming that a certain race is superior or inferior to another will not bring him up. Let’s show a bit of respect to the families involved in this situation, and keep our ignorant and childish comments to ourselves, shall we? Thanks much, greatly appreciated.

Just as it is unfair to generalise against all folks from the Middle-East(just because of 9/11,it is also unfair to generalise against folks of other skin colors other than our own. I do belive that targeting another person-for a crime-whose skin colour is different than your should be regarded as a hate crime,regardless what colour the perpetrator happens to be. That should also be true if a non-disabled person harms,robs,or takes advantage of a disabled person. I know I;ve faced this for many years from classmates-and adults(as I was growing up and even now)by students,both white and black in Chamblee and in Marietta,Ga.I hate it when people have experienced it one way(being hit and punched by the black kids in school,but just verbally jeered at by the white kids),yet being denounced as a “racist”for simply pointing that out then. Enough said,I hope.

I don’t know if race had anything to do with this particular murder, but the sad fact is that black-on-white murder is 11 times greater per capita than white-on-black. This is a statistic from the FBI. The rate is even higher for black-on-white robbery and rape.

I think that we need to realize that two lives were potentially ruined here. It wasn’t just one person. I don’t justify the murderer, because I realize that what he did was wrong, but his life was potentially ruined. He won’t have a graduation or anything along those lines either. His life is ruined. It was a moment of desperation where both boys were at a point that they shouldn’t have been. Schools should not allow it..

I do apologize if my comments upset you in any way, and in the personal note, I do sympathize with you.. but in the legal aspect of things.. I believe that this all could have been avoided. No one can *make* you kill another person. The situation could have been avoided, but nothing justifies murder. Nothing. Your desire for me to get killed only demonstrates that you’ve learned nothing in this situation, and that saddens me. Would you want someone else to go through the pain that you and the rest of the family is going through now?
