Smiley Face Murders – The Smiley Face gang have committed 40 murders in 11 states with the loose-knit gang of killers leaving a smiley face and mystery clue where they dumped each young man in the water, including the breakthrough clue, Sinsinawa.
The Smiley Face murders were cracked by retired NYC detectives Kevin Gannon and Anthony Duarte who conducted their own investigation into the random murders of young men last seen leaving bars or college parties before going missing and being found drowned months later.
In their investigation of the gang of smiley face killers, the detectives made a chilling discovery as they backtracked from where each victim’s body was found to where they believe it was placed in the water.
At many locations, they found a smiley face painted on a nearby rock, often with smiley face gang member’s nicknames added as graffiti, and obscure clues like “Sinsiniwa” that they found while looking into a Michigan drowning case.
The detectives were puzzled by “Sinsiniwa” and couldn’t figure out the obscure clue until they went to Dubuque, Iowa a few months later to investigate another possible smiley face murder, that of a college student named Matt Kuzinski whose body was found on Sinsiniwa Ave.
Because the smiley face gang would plant evidence such as wallets or cell phones far away from where they actually dumped their victim’s unconscious bodies in the water, local police following up on the missing person’s reports would assume the young men were accidental drowning victimes instead of deliberate murders.
In fact, 39 of the 40 cases investigated by retired NYC detectives Kevin Gannon and Anthony Duarte are still classified as drownings and only one, that of Chris Henkins of Minneapolis, has been labeled a homicide.
The smiley face gang is loosely connected via the Internet and various members meet up, kidnap young college-age men off the street by throwing them into a waiting cargo van, then torture their victims for hours before dumping the unconscious young men into a nearby river.
The smiley face and associated graffiti is their method of bragging about what they’ve done and the water washes away all the DNA evidence.
There may be many more victims and retired detectives Gannon and Duarte have gone public with what they know in hopes of getting an FBI task force assigned to catch these killers.

The reason cops don’t investigate much is because they have nothing to go on and don’t want to spend man hours on it, thats why they say it was a drowning.
They are too lazy to investigate! But I bet that if it were there kid the whole force would investigate until they found something!
Most cops are lazy dougnut eating pigs and don’t want a tedius job of finding clues and actually doing something about it,

Just watching the news tonight in Minneapolis MN where another man was found in the harbor in Duluth after leaving a night club. I think this is the 3rd victim in MN. You cant tell me that 3 drunk collage kids in 3 different areas and at 3 different times all met the same fate. Things happen but all of these people all have to much in common.
Prokevin- Sly McCurry (18) was actually the 17th Minnesota victim from my composite list. Wisconsin has 24, Illinois has 19 and NY has 12. All were in their late teens to mid twenties, average height (5′10″) and weight (slim build) who have gone missing from a bar or house party and ended up dead in a river or lake. They were all low-risk victims (not into gangs, criminal activities nor did illegal drugs) who were not doing any water-related activities when they were last seen. A majority of the victims are college students, caucasian and Catholic. I too find it hard to believe they are all “accidents”.
When will someone step up and look into this?
I watched an interview with Sly’s father and he said nothing of all the other men killed. I wounder if he knows about all of this?

These killings are a hoax. There is no smiley face killer. They are all accidents and the media puts up a scare, as they usually do. College men die all the time and mainly from falling off balconies after being drunk. Another is from car accidents. These are just isolated incidents. As for the victims being all white. Not totally true. Many college men aren’t all white and many aren’t dead from drowning either.
Whether or not these killings are a hoax or not shouldn’t matter to people uninvolved in the solving of this case as much as it seems to be. Even if these murders aren’t all connected that doesn’t mean that they aren’t crimes. And while undoubtedly some are accidents, they could not all have been.
As for prejudice, it’s going on all over the world all the time; many people are killed and no one cares, it doesn’t register as a tragedy and the media ignores it. For centuries people have been fighting each other because of race and as long as people carry a grudge for these past fights, they will continue. Frankly, I’m sick of it.

tedekleislel, you obviously haven’t seen the smiley faces for yourself. I’ve seen them before the whole ’smiley face gang’ hit the news. In 2006, I was going for a run along the river in LaCrosse, WI and saw 7 smiley faces by the river on a bridge. I remember stopping and wondering how many people had died in the river. The coincidence was creepy. Something’s not right.

interesting find about the graffiti. By the end of 2006, LaCrosse had 9 “drowning” victims.
What if someone was putting a drug in their drinks, hoping they would go unconscious so they can take them home (like Ed Lanphear did)? Maybe some did end up in a van, then tossed in the river weeks later. Or, they could have instead stumbled into the river trying to get away from the person they think is drugging them. Even if they did that on their own, the person putting the drug in their drink should be found guilty of poisoning resulting in death or something.
I wish I could get a hold of witness names (everyone in the bar at the time the men went missing) from police reports to see if we have any common names. Or video tapes if they were saved. Doubt it though.
To those that emailed me about “the one who got away”, I checked out the data in the posts and this is clearly not the real smiley killer.
The posts are full of errors including mispelling Talladega, which is not something someone who really grew up there would do. Also, this person gave the wrong name for one of the victim’s father.
The posts were written by someone who copied crap off the Internet and is clearly mentally unstable.
The profile of the real smiley killer is quite different from the posts on this blog.
The real killer is an alcoholic, a devoted (but clearly misguided) Catholic, and is a closeted homosexual. He is very anti-government and strongly opposes government intrusions like the strict environmental regulations that have pushed jobs out of this country and depressed the economy.
The real killer has a very limited education and would not be using the vocabulary the “the one who got away” used, unless he was copying it from another web site.

That is a pretty good description, but don’t you think that it has to be more than one person- a group even? To carry dead or unconscious bodies into vehicles or to a river is not easy for one person to do.
Also, why would anyone sit and write very good poems/writings about missing and murdered men? They have to be following these cases pretty closely and is very versed in the Bible. People who play internet pranks are usually not very smart. This person seems very advanced in literary skills.
Sometimes people who are too educated go off the deep end because they can’t relate to regular people (ex: the biology prof in Alabama who shot her brother and colleagues).

I understand what you are saying but “the one who got away” is not as smart as he sounds in the posts. He just copies various works from others who sound smart and mixes it into his posts. Anyone can do that and sound smart.
It’s possible for SFK to be more than one person, but it is rare among serial killers. There is a homosexual element to these cases and that is something that would likely be done by one person.
The real killer is a male with a low IQ, poorly educated, and is unable to hold a job. He likely gets Social Security for a diagnosed mental condition.
That very well could be some truth that there is a homosexual element to some of the killings. Remember the man in California who met a younger blond man in a bar, bought him drinks, spiked the drinks and took him home to molest him? The victim was found rolled up in a carpet in an alley. The perpetrator said he liked heterosexual young men because “they were a challenge”.
However, I think the majority of the murders are done just for sport, recognition within their group (gang or religious group) or possibly for “street cred”.
I think the killer or killers are woman. They drown them in alcohol and drag him to the river. They dont mention what type of torture. But my gut is telling me its a woman because young men are not threatened by a woman. They went along bc they didn’t suspect a woman. Maybe ?
We had a similar case in Indiana. Scott Peterson came out of the party and was on his way home. He was found drowned in the wabash river with his car. Some one or people, probably just parked him there and took the brake off. They called it accidental, then homicide many years later. I suspected it was murder. He was happy go lucky and much goin for him.
I have not researched deeply into this but all along I have figured these killings are partly racially and culturally motivated, are organized as a group and carried out by Mexican or Mexican-American gang members.
My son in downtown L.A. at a Halloween party. He was chased and attacked by a gang of Mex Americans some may have been illegals. Gang members. They targeted him as he went outside a party downtown L.A. to try and get a cell phone signal. they chased him and he narrowly escaped. There were two at first -party was far downtown and not far from L.A. river. Son ended up near some fences there. Another one with a knife joined in he did slash my son on the underside of his arm pretty badly it was a defensive wound I believe they wer aiming for his liver on the right side of his body. Son is big tall guy and he managed to climb a really tall barbed wire fance and then they didn’t want to follow him. What they said to him is “you’re going down to the rivber.” Not making this up. Son ended up in ER pretty cut up from barbed wire pumped full of adrenaline and not feeling all his wounds. ER doc told him he had been stabbed and he needed lots of stitches. Son is college type. Wasn’t in college but he is way above intelligence has attended some college, tall and handsome. The local gang members knew there was a downtown party with American artists and musicians and deliberately went to target whoever was alone. It was about 2:30 AM. It is my opinion this was a cold blooded gang crime and that the smiley face killings are all this type of crime. The reason tehy do not get caught they are totally cold blooded about it.
PS I had a typo on this they told my son, “you’re going down to the river.” It is my belief they were going to knife him and then drag him down and drown him in a couple feet of water. My son has scars but I am so glad he got away from them. It brings out the worst in me and if I ever see a gang down there I know what I would like to do with them.
I need some volunteers to help catch these guys. Must be college students willing to get drunk and stumble around downtown bar district late at night..

Only one is classified as a Killing!
Only one was classified as a killing because there was proof he died outside of water and was placed there.
Unless the body has a bullet or stab wound, the police and medical examiners automatically indicate “no foul play”. Other factors are ignored (was the person “high risk” for being killed? were they doing water-related activities? what was the person’s temperment/mood when they were last seen?). I believe some people are getting away with murder.
All of this is a theory, there is no evidence of a “smily face gang” although I do agree they were all murdered.There is a lot of false information on this site, there is no evidence of torture on any of the body’s, no sign of blunt force trauma, or restraint. Nor was there any evidence of any van or car tracks near any of the bodies.
