Latest update on projected Gustav path

The forecasted long-range track of Hurricane Gustav places the storm hitting anywhere from Texas to the Florida panhandle as a Category 3 hurricane.

Not quite Hurricane Katrina strength, but certainly strong enough to do considerable damage. So, where will the storm come ashore?

As the National Hurricane Center said in their recent forecast discussions:

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THERE STILL REMAINS SIGNIFICANT UNCERTAINTY REGARDING GUSTAV’S ULTIMATE TRACK AT DAYS 3-5…AND IT IS MUCH TOO SOON TO KNOW WHAT IMPACT THIS SYSTEM MAY HAVE ON THE NORTHERN GULF COAST.

ONE SHOULD NOT READ MUCH INTO SUCH SHIFTS OF THE FORECAST TRACK SINCE THE TYPICAL ERROR OF A 5-DAY PREDICTION IS OVER 300 MILES.

And that’s the latest Hurricane Gustav track update.
