Fawcett disappeared last September after flying an experimental plane. A judge declared him legally dead in February.

Anderson says the aircraft appears to have crashed head-on into the side of a mountain.”I have seen photographs; they took some photographs last night of the crash site. It was so severe that I doubt if someone would have walked away,” Anderson said.

Most of the fuselage disintegrated on impact, and the engine was found several hundred feet away.
