Hope Mercer - The murder trial of Belinda Hope Mercer ended with a twist Tuesday. Belinda Mercer of Franklin was charged with murdering her husband Joe in April of 2005.

The morning started off with Hope Mercer listening to the 911 call she made the night Joe Mercer was fatally shot.

“The bullet from that 22-gun, pistol, enters the right side of his neck, and severs his spinal cord,” prosecutor Katy Miller said.

In court, it was revealed that the two had been fighting at their Brentwood home just before the shooting. Hope Mercer claimed her husband stormed into her room, tore covers off her bed, and threw suitcases around the room.

“He said you need to pack your stuff, you need to leave,” Detective Roy Dunaway said.

Attorneys claimed Joe Mercer then pulled out a gun, Hope grabbed it, and it accidentally went off.

Prosecutors said this was no accidental shooting.

Hope Mercer claimed she’s innocent, and that she was arguing with her husband the night the gun went off accidentally.

Prosecutors said physical evidence and forensic evidence will prove that she is not innocent.
