Shannon Pole-Summers
Shannon Pole-Summers – Women’s bench press world record holder Shannon Pole-Summers was arrested on federal charges of assault with intent to kill, identity theft, and larceny.
23-year old Shannon Pole-Summers is being held in the Minot, North Dakota jail pending extradition to South Carolina where the offenses took place.
Deputy federal Marshal Kevin Howe says Pole-Summers has been living in the Minot area under an assumed identity since July. She was arrested yesterday morning in the parking lot of a car dealership.
“I got a lead from the task force in South Carolina that she might be in Minot,” Howe told reporters Thursday afternoon. “She is wanted in Pickens County, S.C. – the Greenville area.”
Howe said he got the lead Wednesday afternoon and spotted Pole-Summers Thursday morning after beginning surveillance at a home she was renting.
He said he followed her for a distance and waited for her to get to a safe area to make the stop, away from traffic.
“I might be 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, but I made sure I had my TASER ready,” Howe told reporters with a laugh.
Shannon Pole-Summers appeared on “Ripley’s Believe It or Not” several years ago, pulling a school bus filled with members of her high school’s football team. She’s approximately 5 foot, 6 inches tall and weighs 270 pounds.
Pole-Summers is wanted in Pickens County, South Carolina where she used to live. Scott Ticknor is the deputy sherriff for Pickens County and used to do power lifting with her.
Ticknor says she’s one of the world’s strongest women because she bench pressed a world record 531 pounds at a meet in 2006. That is the most weight ever bench pressed by any woman in any weight class.
And that’s the latest news on the arrest of Shannon Pole-Summers.
